Foreign Policy

We need to end the endless wars and reign in the authority that allows every President, regardless of party, to engage in acts of war without congressional approval. We need a foreign policy that encourages international unity in an effort to take on the common challenges we face. We need to unite to defeat income inequality and the climate crisis. Coronavirus has shown that despite the rise of nationalism across the world, our fates are undeniably tied together.

An international minimum corporate tax is necessary as we combat income inequality, not compete with each other to the benefit of corporations. The Paris Climate agreement was an encouraging and groundbreaking first step but we must go even further to meet the scope of this challenge. We need a stronger global health security system to ensure that we prevent the next potential pandemic from ever taking place.  We cannot continue to ignore the murder of journalists and dissenters in nations from which we require fossil fuels.

We cannot organize our foreign policy around convenience. We can no longer be the international actors when it is compatible with our material interests and America First when it is not. By embracing clean energy we can end our reliance on oil in foreign nations. American leadership requires a commitment to human rights, not only when it’s convenient, but wherever it’s needed.
