NC SENATOR ERICA SMITH KICKS OFF U.S. SENATE CAMPAIGN IN RALEIGH, NC

Raleigh, NC: Yesterday, NC State Senator Erica Smith formally kicked off her U.S. Senate campaign to unseat Republican Thom Tillis. Joined by supporters from all over the state, Senator Smith outlined the reasons she is campaigning to be the next U.S. Senator from NC.

Senator Smith made the case for change in DC and told the enthusiastic crowd, “We need someone who will go the extra mile and lead that change!” She continued, “I am the most prepared candidate to lead that change in DC, with the intellect, ability and integrity to get our state and nation moving in the right direction.”

Also on hand for the announcement was former Congresswoman Eva Clayton. Congresswoman Clayton took the opportunity to endorse Senator Smith, stating, “Erica has the competence and commitment to work with all people. Her critical business skills, public policy experience and leadership at all levels provide her with the comprehensive tools to represent us well in DC.” Congresswoman Clayton continued, “And that is why I stand with you this evening in supporting her as our next U.S. Senator!”

Also in attendance were internationally renowned recording artist Ruth La ‘Ontra and Pastor Roy Gray of Martin County.

Over the next two months, Senator Smith will be traveling North Carolina meeting and listening to voters and outlining a message of bringing change and integrity to Washington. She currently has stops scheduled in Charlotte, Wilmington, Greensboro, Raleigh, Durham and Elizabeth City.

Senator Smith is running for U.S. Senate to unite NC with policies that work for everyone – regardless of income or race – and to bridge the gap between rural and urban communities. Senator Smith will be an advocate for a bright future for all North Carolinians.

Smith is a Democratic member of the North Carolina State Senate, representing District 3 – Beaufort, Bertie, Martin, Northampton, Vance and Warren counties. She was first elected to the NC General Assembly in 2014 making history as the first woman to serve the district in the Senate.
